MY THREE LIFETIMES

1.  Dr. Super-Dotty: Oberlin BA, Yale MA, U. of Michigan PhD. Three kids and career in Humanities at Illinois Institute of Technology and University of Michigan. Loved it but found myself in a giant candy store, craving a loaf of bread.

2.  Simplified life: dropped out, married Lakota sundance leader, moved to Pine Ridge Reservation, SD, raised sacred herd of buffalo. One-room log cabin, no electricity, no running water, no books, many stories. Joined ancient oral culture, learned Lakota. My tiyoshpaya (extended family) taught me generosity, co-operation, and respect -- for the land, the elders, the children. Respect for all my relations: birds, rocks, trees, surrounded by the Everywhere Spirit.

3.  Moved to Corvallis, OR, to honor my own father when ill. Discovered my own native Molalla roots, joined Red Cedar Circle. Singer for healing ceremonies, maker of star quilts. Calyx contributing editor. Moved to Whale Watcher’s Delight to write full-time, study ocean and sky.
